Honda is set to unveil its 2019 Insight prototype at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. This all-new hybrid is estimated to deliver 50 miles per gallon along with segment-leading interior space and room for five adults.

Positioned as a premium compact model, this comely sedan will sit above the popular Civic in the Japanese automaker’s American lineup when it goes on sale later this year.

As with previous gasoline-electric Hondas, a two-motor hybrid drivetrain will power this new Insight. The primary motivator here is an economical 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine, though it’s aided by a duet of electric machines and an energy-dense lithium-ion battery.

It's really not hard to be a Prius slayer when that car is so hideous. Yes, I may be biased but from what I understand it's a pretty common opinion and the Insight looks infinitely better. If it can deliver on perfromance and fuel economy, Honda could overtake its main rival.

Prius is FUGLY

The Prius is FUGLY. Someone set its face on fire and put it out with a rake. Fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

The Insight 3 has the right styling for the compact luxury market. I attribute the design restraint as a reaction to the overstyled Civic.

I own a 2012 Lexus IS350 here (my son got my hail-damaged IS 250), and now I'm looking HARD at the Insight 3.

When do they get to Texas?
