I heard the touring trim of the insight comes with wifi? what are the costs of the subscription for the wifi? are there different levels of subscription for the wifi? have you run into any trouble with the wifi? Do you feel like its worth having the wifi in your car?

I’ve only used it to connect to my home WiFi while it’s sitting in my garage. That’s useful for doing software updates. The other way is to tether it using your phone as a hotspot. Not sure why that is useful?

My EX has WiFi for the reasons Goldy said. Software updates or to use phone as a hotspot to connect the car for some reason.

Are you talking about the AT&T hotspot feature on the Touring models? That’s LTE connection that provides WiFi to the users in the car. To be honest I would much rather use my phone and save the extra cost of another data plan for the kids to use internet while driving. Plus it’s more seamless with our devices.

I have it on my Touring. We already use AT&T, and it's $10 a month if you add it to an existing mobile share plan or $20 a month for unlimited data throttled at 22GB a month. Works well, and my daughter loves it for her wi-fi only iPad.

The hotspot on the Touring models is actual internet in the car as long as you purchase a data plan from AT&T. It’s 20 a month for unlimited. Unfortunately in my case it’s very slow to the point of being practically useless compared to my phones data on the same network. I am having service look into it to determine if the hardware is defective.

Thanks for sharing. It looks like the availability on Honda is exclusive to AT&T service. Have you had the AT&T unlimited service on the car for a while, and does it work well otherwise? Could your speed be affected by the throttling mentioned by @Hapless11 in prior post? On the AT&T site (in very tiny print at bottom) it mentions throttling start on the unlimited plan once above 22 GB of usage per car per billing cycle.

AT&T Connected Car Unlimited Plan (U.S. Only)
  • Data Restrictions: After 22GB of data usage on vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot in a bill cycle, for the rest of the cycle AT&T may slow data speeds on vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot during periods of network congestion.
  • Pricing: $20 per vehicle monthly plan charge (3 vehicles on plan results in $60 monthly plan charge). Limit 3 vehicles per plan.
  • Hotspot: Connects a limited number of Wi-Fi capable devices per vehicle hotspot. Devices connected to vehicle’s hotspot use data from your plan. Once a device connects, it will automatically reconnect and use data from your plan unless hotspot is removed from returning device settings or hotspot password is changed. Performance varies based on number of devices connected and other factors.
  • International: Wi-Fi hotspot functionality not available outside of U.S. & Canada. Service in Canada depends upon availability of unaffiliated carrier coverage.
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot: Supports up to 7 Wi-Fi-capable devices. Performance varies based on number of devices connected and other factors.

AT&T Hotspot error question

2019 Touring edition here. I notice that even though I have a paid connected car account and the hotspot enabled, the display for AT&T Wifi always states "Error getting data." Everything seems to work fine, but this error fires up my OCD. Any idea what causes it or if it's a common issue?

Maybe a reboot or a sim card replacement will fix it?

Thanks. Although I didn’t think you could actually swap SIMs on vehicles based on what little I can find online. Does anyone know how to do the reboot or find the actual SIM/ICcID number?

^Reboot instructions here.

I assume the sim id is within settings > system settings > about. If you need a sim replacement it probably has to be done by either the dealership or AT&T. I doubt they want people to put that sim in another device to get that $20 unlimited data without needing to be near the car.
