Mine gets random static and blips only on one fm station. one day it's fine. next day there is no point in even using the station. I am guessing a tuner problem. I will need to get a rental for a few days to have it looked at. so I have been without that station for a month now. I shall update!!

Sorry, but I'm a little confused... did your dealer mention that a software update will be needed to address the channel/tuner problem? Or was there something else on the issue that's related to software/restart mentioned in this thread?

Intermittent static usually indicates a power/ground issue (wiring). They'll probably inspect all wires for both the headhunt, antenna and amplifier (if equipped).

The fact that it happens at only a specific frequency would lead me to believe that something is damaged within the antenna (physical damage). The fact that it happens randomly, would lead my search for a loose or damaged wire/solder point or connection. This damage must be limited to a specific frequency range.

Software shouldn't have any effect on radio signal, unless there is some sort of "static/squelch" reduction software, and if that were the case, the issue would show up at all frequencies. Unless for some reason there is an issue with the "digital tuner interface", which could be software based, but I'd be willing to bet its hardware based.

To test if it's unique to your vehicle, on a day when it is acting weird, I'd stop by the dealership and tune into the same station in another car, or if you have an old school radio, try tuning in on that with the car nearby. If the issue is only with the car, you are negating the chance of environmental interference.

update

Ah by update I meant I shall update you all. This is clearly a hardware issue, not software. The issues occur only on one particular station and happens only with this car. The dealer said it would take 2 weeks to look at my car and the issue has to occur during their analysis and that I would need to get a rental. So I have to live with it and just listen to other stations when it has a 'bad day'. Side notes: Radio has reset itself on me about 5 times total. It's hard to tell what variables cause it. It's not a huge deal to me as long as it's not sign of problems ahead. on the 3rd day I drove up to my wife to pick her up (10 miles worth of driving to get her) and the car suddenly said key not found or missing or some warning. That's only happened once. 2 days later I walked out to my car first thing in the morning and the windows all were half way down for no reason. car was unlocked as well. When I started the car all kinds of warnings popped up. The dealer said a fuse was loose and it was a simple fix. I am doubting any of this is related to each of the problems I have had but hey what ever helps.

It would be great if the media unit was more customizable- say a simple clone of your cell screen will do. It seems like it's very close to that already.
