CarBuzz awarded a quirky 'Save the Planet' award, in which the Honda Insight came in second overall (but would be 1st place if compared to sedans only). The 2019 award criteria was based on the car's efficiency and an enjoyable driving experience:

WINNER:
- 1ST PLACE: 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (hybrid model = performance option)

FINALISTS:
- 2ND PLACE: 2019 Honda Insight (graceful, spunky, attractive, affordable)
- 3RD PLACE: 2019 Tesla Model 3 (price creep & infrastructure)

MISSING THE CUT:
- 2019 Porsche Taycan (too new)
- 2019 Toyota Corolla Hybrid

I can't imagine the Rav4 Hybrid getting the mileage that the Insight does. . . in addition to the looks of the Insight.

It doesn't. :)

RAV4 Hybrid = 41 city / 38 highway

I think that's why the scorers added other factors like 'enjoyable driving experience' (subjective).

Not to mention the RAV4 Hybrid is in a much more popular category, with a much more significant fuel economy improvement vs the Insight and Civic.
