I just traded in my 2018 Prius for a 2019 Insight ("lemon law"buy-back by Toyota) (take care now, bye-bye then).

When I got the Prius I had purchased a "Carista" module to deactivate the back-up alarm (think of a dump truck backing up). With this module and it's associated iPhone app I could access a hidden options menu to make various changes that are not accessible via any of the normal display menus.

Does anyone know of any such "hack" for the Insight?

Thanks!

What was wrong with the Prius? Just curious.

ScanGaugeII use for "custom programs" is the only mention I've seen in this forum so far.

There are other OBD suggestions, but it only mentions getting more info from the car (e.g. RPM) rather than additional custom controls.

I also checked the Carista site, since was interested and hadn't heard of it until your mention. It's a pretty comprehensive module for controlling Prius models, but even for the 2014 Insight model, the Carista only shows information and doesn't allow customization/controls.

The infotainment system was rebooting (at times every 7 minutes) while I was driving. Installing a new one, updating several times, etc, didn't work.
Hoping not to jinx you... but in full transparency and to get you up to speed, there are reports on this forum that the Insight infotainment screen resets itself unexpectedly. It's less frequent than every 7 minutes, but has been a quirk some of us have seen and can't anticipate.

See threads below for quick intro to what has been described as "issues" and "strange occurrences":
