Make sure you ask the sales guy what happened with the original statement vs the actual sequence of events. It may be something simple. Miscommunication within organizations happens.

I've been using this for years. I have one in the car and two in the house. I pull one from the house for my international flights, since when I lose it, at least I'll still have the one in my car.

I felt like it was causing some back pain also, bought a samsonite memory foam back pad and it’s ok. Don’t like how thick it is, but it serves a purpose. I’ve never had a car with such poor lumbar support

Heh. I've never had a car with lumbar support. For me, this is completely normal. Decades ago I would use a small pillow. I was thrilled when I found the Core pillow.
