Exterior Colors

What do you all think about the exterior color choices? I am not in love with any of them! But I really want the car and I'm trying to figure out what I want. I'm torn right now between the Crimson Red and the Aegean Blue. The big pro of the aegean blue for me is that I prefer the dark interior. I think my kids will make a mess of the light ivory fabric (I want the EX). However, there are very few EXs around in these colors in CA so I may have to wait a while to find one or order one. I'm big on red cars in general but I don't love this red color - it's just a bot too dark (it looks pretty different in person than in most photos and videos).

My Lexus IS 350 is my first ivory leather car, and the driver's side is so dark from blue jean wear. Get the black leather.
I have heard that there are special leather wipes that will take the dye from your jeans right off. I'm not sure what they are called. I am pretty sure I'm going to get the EX with the fabric, though, instead of the touring with leather.
I am still struggling with this. I went on vacation for a week and during that time made no progress on a color decision. I guess I am trying to talk myself into the Aegean Blue. I do think it looks very pretty on this car, but when I had only seen it on the Civic I thought it was too bright and flashy for me. Has anyone chosen this color? Any opinions?
I just spoke to a sales manager and he asked if I had seen the Aegean Blue in person, because "People either love it or they hate it." How can I be undecided, then? I think I love it. "I think I love it. . . . so what am I so afraid of?" (singing David Cassidy tune) :surprise:
I went by my local dealership to see an Insight in person for the first time. They were closed, and the only one I could find was an Aegean Blue Ex.

At first, the brightness of the color took a minute to process before I could start seeing the rest of the car! Maybe this is something you've experienced?

As for the car, the shape/volume immediately reminded of the Civic on the outside - no surprise there -- but looking inside I saw it was really different and beautiful, especially that center stack and dash overall. This is a great looking car. I will probably go for the Touring due to the leather seats. I was leaning toward a Cosmic Blue, which has the light interior, but I liked the look of all-black inside.

Even though global Insight production comes from Indiana, a two black exterior paint colors are offered for Japanese models. The second black color has a purple hue to it and is only offered for Japan's EX Black (top) trim (and other Honda models in Japan). Comparison of US and Japanese colors are below, along with "colorful" Japanese description and website pictures of the two black exteriors.

2020 US EXTERIOR COLOR --> JP EXTERIOR COLOR: JP DESCRIPTION
Crystal Black Pearl --> Crystal Black Pearl: black with rich nuances of jet black sparkling pearls
Cosmic Blue Metallic --> Cosmic Blue Metallic: dark blueish gunmetal that glows like a star
Lunar Silver Metallic --> Lunar Silver Metallic: dark silver that shines in shadows like the moon in the night sky
Crimson Pearl --> Premium Crystal Red Metallic: deep red with a clear shine
Platinum Pearl White --> Platinum Pearl White: white with refined depth and shine
Aegean Blue Metallic --> Premium Crystal Blue Metallic: deep blue with a clear shine
Modern Steel Metallic --> Super Platinum Gray Metallic: gray color that emphasizes fine texture and detail
Not Available --> Luce Black Metallic: bewitching dark metallic with a purple hue

Car colors you would've loved to see available for the Insight...

I own a 2019 Insight in Modern Steel Metallic and am generally happy with the color. Nevertheless, the bolder, sporty side of me would've loved to see a couple other colors available with the Insight. What color(s) do you wish the Insight would've come in?

I have two general colors that I would've loved to see on the Insight: black cherry and a green option. Specifically, the 50th anniversary Toyota Corolla black cherry, as well as one of the shades of green listed below for the 2018 Honda Pilot and 2018 Honda Clarity.

I like the Japanese Insight's Black Rose(slight purple) color. I wouldn't buy it though because it's going to be hard to keep clean and darker colors usually mean a hotter cabin for the summer. :p

I'm happy with the available colors for the Insight. They're a little bland (but then again, so am I). I would have picked silver regardless of other offerings.

These are the top car colors (88% of total sales), according to KBB (2/10/19):
19.3% - White
18.0% - Silver
12.4% - Black
11.4% - Med. Dark Blue
07.5% - Med. Dark Gray
07.1% - Med. Red
06.7% - Med. Dark Green
05.1% - Light Brown

It seems like Honda chose to only offer the 'popular' colors (>7% sales cutoff), given the smaller overall sales volume.

Need more red cars on here imo
Based on my sightings of Insights around Boston...

From most common Insight color to rarest

  1. White Orchid Pearl
  2. Modern Steel Metallic
  3. Crystal Black Pearl / Cosmic Blue Metallic (About the same for both)
  4. Aegean Blue Metallic
  5. Lunar Silver
  6. Crimson Pearl
I love the Aegean Blue. I have an EX with black interior. I am partial to blue and bright.

Aegean Blue was my favorite, too, but Cosmic Blue was a close second and we wanted the light interior.

Cosmic looks fantastic when clean, but shows chips and imperfections easily. Silver is so much better at hiding dirt, dust, salt spray and minor nicks, scratches and swirls but also only had black as an interior option. Sort of regret not going with silver now, but our recent cars had been white, gray or silver and admittedly kind of boring.

The Aegean Blue hides nothing, but that's the downside of Brighter colors that aren't silver.
My preferred choices were White Orchid, Aegean Blue, and Lunar Silver. Aegean Blue was my top choice but none of the dealerships I visited had one for the EX at the time or even one in the other trims for me to see. I chose the White Orchid over the Lunar Silver mainly cause the dealership told me nobody test drove the White Orchid and it was at an off site storage facility. My previous cars were red and metal grey so didn't consider those for the Insight. I kind of wish I had chosen the Lunar Silver due to all the *** Insights. :p

KBB did another most popular color choice by vehicle segment back in July 2019.

This article on safest car color is interesting, too.

Similar KBB summary as in post #9, with the addition of the bottom 2 colors (12%). :)

I would have thought red and black to be flipped for total sales, but otherwise seems about right.

Ha, yes - KBB supports your hunch, BUT we Insight owners like to buck the trends. :)

My dealer claims to be the #1 volume dealer in Illinois, they had maybe a couple dozen between the main lot and their remote lot, mostly black, white, gray and silver. A few blues, one red.
