Gen3 Insight hybrid system description

The new insight will use a powertrain similar to what's being used in the Clarity PHEV, but without the large battery pack that can be plugged in to recharge it. Instead the Insight opts for a two motor hybrid system that replaces the transmission entirely. Unlike traditional Toyota hybrids, this system runs mostly on battery power alone, with the engine acting more as a generator to recharge the battery. No confirmation on voltage, but fuel economy has been estimated to be around 55mpg.
