California-based Drivemode Inc is now a new subsidiary of Honda R&D. Drivemode is a start-up company that develops smartphone-based connected services to create software technologies that improve the in-car digital/connected experience.

It will be interesting to see where Honda takes this, as this emphasizes Honda's "tech" focus. It might fit into Honda's "Dream Drive" vision that Honda shared at CES 2019, which includes:
- In-vehicle payment technology (like in Japanese Insight?) that enables paying for goods and services like fuel, movie tickets, parking, and 'rewards'
- Games, movies, and control of radio and cabin features from the passenger’s mobile device

Hopefully it won't become Honda's attempt to build a standalone solution. Would hate to see Honda go down the "Entune" route that Toyota did; even Toyota learned from that and are now (finally) adding CarPlay and Android Auto.

Yes, it will be interesting to see where Honda takes it. Clearly Honda thinks there's something there in tech potential, since they acquired them.

I'm hoping at a MINIMUM Honda's base voice control recognition (non-Carplay/Android Auto) becomes broader in than their current list of limited phone, radio, and USB commands. Maybe also something along the lines of "next generation" interface for the touchscreen, and wireless updates.

I mean my "Dream" would be to see Honda work with them to actually push updates to it's infotainment systems...
