Lone 2019 Insight owner in Southeast New York!

Hello gen3insight forum. I have had my Orchid White Pearl EX (with factory fog lights) since mid January 2019. I LOVE this car! And I'm very surprised I don't see anyone else in lower NY, LI and NNJ driving these. I mean, none! I'm it. The dealer I purchased mine from has two LX models with NY tags on them in the lot. Maybe employee cars, but maybe not. Could be loaners.

I hope this is a friendly forum. The other forum had some condescending members that just went out of their way to bash you. I'm not into that, at all. I can enjoy a respectful discussion that may have a different point of view, but not outright put-downs and disrespectful people telling you what or whatnot to post or say.

This car is fun to experiment with, and great to drive. I think we have a lot of positive things to discus and compare. So hopefully it will be a good camaraderie for all.

See you on the forum!

Phil

Welcome to the "elite" group of Insight owners. There are ~10 owners listed in NJ and ~2 owners listed in NY in this forum so far. We're a trim group of 350+ members (and growing!). I think you'll find the dialog different here because we're all learning together about this new G3 model. Looking forward to learning from your experiences!

Thank you, insightfully (cool user name) for the warm welcome!

I look forward to making new friends. I am still watching YT videos of 2019 Insight car reviews even though I have had mine for a while. I would be driving mine today if it wasn't wet with lots of road salt from this morning's snow dump. My local automated car wash place is making a small fortune off of me!

I have been trying everything on this car, and am still doing controlled mileage testing in different modes at different speeds. But then there are times I just like the power and max regen tightness of Sport Mode. I end up blowing any record setting MPG per tankful. But the car drives so well, and handles the road curves like such a champ that I can't stick to hipermile tactics for too long.

I have a lot of MPG data to share. Over the next few days I will start sharing, but really need to read what is happening here before I start posting. Much to read and learn!

Welcome to the forum @PHILBERT. I haven't encountered any hostility here, everyone has been friendly, and it's fun to share our experiences with the car. I kind of get excited when I see another Insight due to the rarity. I just saw my first crystal black Insight at the car wash in line right in front of me last week. I see about 3-4 Insights per month now as more people purchase one here in Boston. I get a decent amount of attention driving it around especially from other Honda drivers wondering if it is a redesigned Accord or Civic due to the rear tail lights.

I didn't really buy the car because it is a hybrid. I bought the car cause this is what I wanted in a car, hybrid, or not. Looking forward to warmer weather, I'm averaging 42mpg right now, so it can only get better from here. I don't use much hypermiling tactics(can't really do it much in the city without pissing off other drivers), I just drive normally, and not be aggressive trying to rush to where I'm going. The car has really changed the way I drive, I don't stress as much in traffic(praise to brake hold and EV mode), and less use of the horn due to it sounding horrible(maybe Honda did that on purpose).

Try to find a car wash with a monthly subscription for unlimited use. I pay $35 per month for unlimited use and it contains paint protection foam polish, under wash, rust inhibitor, brake dust removal, free self-vacumming.

Hi Philbert! Did you register at Fuelly.com yet? If not, give it a try and put their banner in your signature so we can follow.

Side note. I came up on a traffic light and spied a crimson Insight right behind me today. They are very rare to spot in western NJ. Unfortunately, I was in my Odyssey minivan at the time!

Welcome to the forum!
Thanks Andrew28 for the welcome. Good to know the Gen3 folks here are friendly. From what I'm reading, we all seem to have a lot in common.

I always wanted a hybrid, and a while back wanted to test drive a Prius. But the dealer said there were none ever on the lot, and I would have to put up the money first and wait months for it to arrive. Needless to say, the Prius never happened. Bought a Kia mini-van and a bit later a Ford Escape. I actually went to the dealer to look for a deal on a used 2014 Insight, but probably would have passed with reports of low power and small size. Then I saw a new white and black 2019 pair side by side and my jaw dropped. After looking at a few videos (like Honda Laura's videos with those Herb Chambers white demo Insights), I had to go back and test drive the white one. Instant love. I bought it.

My average mileage is in the mid 40's, as well, but I just can't resist Sport Mode. If I try, I can get into the 50's. Sometimes I work at it, but usually for the challenge. But it's good to have the ability to save gas. When I go back to my company vehicle for work (M-F), I am reaching for the regen paddles and breaking way early due to the way I drive my Insight. The Insight has also changed the way I drive. I'm now saving gas in my non-hybrid vehicles.

Here there is a local car wash with some of those features. It's $40 a month, and leaves dirty water on the lower side of the car. I have to towel off the dirty water spots every time. It's the best one in the area, but there is a better one a bit further away over the river. The car would be dirty again before I got it back home, and then there's bridge tolls. Sounds like you have the better deal.

Hi hasarad. Thanks for cluing me into this forum. Looks like a great place. Don't know much about Fuelly yet. I'll look into it.

I don't know why my dealer doesn't promote the Insight. Tons of Accords on the lot. No Insights but the LX ones I think they use as loaners. All they push is lots of SUV's, Accords and a Civic or two. I'm hoping they start pushing them come spring time. Maybe that is what they are waiting for. If they sold the other white one, the black one, and I think one touring model they had, that means there must be a couple out there somewhere, but I have NOT seen any on the roads around here. I keep looking! But people are noticing the car. Some want to race me! Race a hybrid? That is funny! Obviously, they don't know this is a hybrid.

Glad you found your way here! Haven't seen a single other insight on the road here in Maine yet. Saw a clarity this evening though.

My count of Insights seen locally is in the low single digits. We have a rare car (for now).

Hmmm. It's just as I thought, we ARE better than everyone else. 😁

Welcome to the forum Philbert. Here is a post I made showing the various wash/wax tips/products I am using on my Insight which I have been very happy with.

Hi Verdier, and thanks! I wrote you a three page PM on the "other forum". Don't know it you saw that, as I have not checked back. I was responding to your YT videos.

Yes, we do have a rare car. For Honda's sake I hope it takes off. I too have seen a one Clarity a couple of towns away. Two came into my dealer's lot about three weeks ago. They were both spoken (paid) for. Not my cup of tea, but don't mind the idea of a 50 mile plug-in battery. That is one thing the Volt had going for it, but I hear they killed the Volt...again. It was a bit to "bling" for me, but again had the big battery range.

The Clarity is rare here in Boston but I have seen a lot more of them than the Insight. I think it is due to the $7500 federal tax and $2500 MA EV rebate incentives which makes the Clarity even cheaper than the Insight. Plus Honda has the 0.9% financing for the Clarity. I didn't consider the Clarity because it felt bigger than even the Accord and I didn't like the design of the back half of the car.
