Will update this thread once my car gets dirty to see how well the sealant holds up.
I don't have a garage either, my car is parked outside. I did it at a nearby car wash with self serve wash bays. I think it only took me 30 minutes to apply the 2 coats of the sealant excluding the time it took to wash my car.Things like this make me wish I had:
a) A garage to apply the products in
b) Time to take the best care of my car
c) A brushless car wash somewhere nearby!
There's a long-term parking lot at Newark Liberty International Airport that offers detailing services. Whenever I go out of town, I leave my car there. I actually had the car waxed there last month, hoping that it would take a scratch out of the clear coat while they buffed it. It didn't.Beautiful shine though.
Thanks for the update. Do you see a difference in the areas where the wax wasn't applied (door jambs, trunk edge)? Also, since you mentioned the spray is safe for multiple surfaces, do you think applying this to the lower radar sensor would help to prevent ice build-up on the sensor while driving?Just an update on how well the sealant did after the snowstorm from earlier this week and the road spray.
Only thing I regret is that I didn't apply this stuff to my door jams and underneath the edge of the trunk where the rear camera is located.
- Doesn't seem to work really well on glass as far as water beading goes.
- As far as painted surfaces, water beads really well even after a week, and road grime melts away after a wash. The water repellent effect works so well, that I can see pools of water floating on my hood when it rains, and then the wind blows that water onto my windshield as I'm driving.
- Wheels look like new after a wash even with all the brake dust, salt, road grime/sludge.
I haven't clean the door jams yet but underneath the rear camera trunk edge definitely requires wiping to remove the road grime. Spraying that area with a pressure washer didn't fully clean that area like the rest of the car. Thanks for the update. I just did some spring cleaning a few days ago(it was filled with dust everywhere and touchscreen covered in fingerprints). Pressure washed the husky floor mats, cleaned the glass (rear windshield is a pain in the butt, waiting on that tool @insightfully suggested to come in the mail), and uv protected all the rubber/plastic before it gets too hot for me to bother doing it. :smile:Wow! Your Insight is CLEAN! Husky floor-mats rock!
What tool was that andrew28 - I missed it....I just did some spring cleaning a few days ago(it was filled with dust everywhere and touchscreen covered in fingerprints). Your spring cleaning is definitely motivating me; your picture looked like a brand new car fresh off the lot. Did you use/recommend anything special for the UV protection, or just the standard 'armor all' treatment?I just did some spring cleaning a few days ago(it was filled with dust everywhere and touchscreen covered in fingerprints). I liked the Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax so much that I decided to check out the other products they sold. I chose the Meguiar's Perfect Clarity glass cleaner and Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer cleaner based on amazon reviews. I bought them for $5 each in store at Advance Auto Parts. They both have a really nice scent to them without a strong chemically smell, too.Your spring cleaning is definitely motivating me; your picture looked like a brand new car fresh off the lot. Drawing from your example, I plan to invest time washing and detailing my Insight this weekend using the Meguiar's products you suggested. I have a few questions I hoped you could answer from your experience:I decided to do some spring cleaning on my Insight today so I applied a new coating of Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax. I applied it more thoroughly this time instead of rushing thanks to the warmer spring weather. The car wash I went to wasn't busy so I could take my time in the self-wash bay which was nice.
Also FYI - it looks like Meguiar's is offering a $5 rebate on the Hybrid Ceramic Wax (purchase by 12/31/19, submit by 1/15/20, limit 1 per household). Your net purchase price could be knocked down to $7.I bought 2 bottles of this stuff from advance auto parts for $12 each after coupon(amazon sells this, too). I finally had time to do it earlier today and the results were amazingly good as far as water beading goes(looks just like the above youtube video). I have this coated everywhere on the exterior of the car including the wheels. You really only need one bottle, I applied it twice(wash car, spray initial coating, dry with towel, rinse, spray 2nd coating, and rinse), and only used 1/3rd of the first bottle.
If you have 40 or so minutes to watch the below video. That Meguiar's guy did a good job explaining how to apply it(I forgot at what point he gave out the instructions) and why it needs to done like this.Drawing from your example, I plan to invest time washing and detailing my Insight this weekend using the Meguiar's products you suggested. I have a few questions I hoped you could answer from your experience:
1 - Have you seen any 'hazing' where the HCW is applied to rubber/plastic trim or tires? I've seen videos applying it to windows and hub caps which make sense; but wasn't sure about "plastic" applications which other waxes warn against for damage.
2 - Did you find the HCW formula thick and/or "grabby"? Did 2nd coat application get easier? Online reviews mentioned the HCW formula being thicker for application than others; would like to know what to expect as 'normal' or not for 1st 'wipe on' base coat.
3 - Did you 'spray on' additional coats, and if so, did you use a pressure washer to apply? One youtuber suggests wiping on ALL coats for best coverage, despite Meguiar's instructions. What do you think from your experience? Also how much water pressure is needed to properly apply the 'spray' coats?
4 - Any tips/tricks/watchouts to share when using the interior detailer product?
Thanks for the response and video link. Fortunately, I have 40 minutes to spare since it's a long-weekend.If you have 40 or so minutes to watch the below video. Good luck and I'm sure you will get good results from it. You pretty much can't mess up unless you empty half the bottle during your first application. :wink:Thanks for the response and video link.
