Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Wax(My personal experience)

^So after watching some youtube videos like the one above on Meguiar's new hybrid ceramic wax. I bought 2 bottles of this stuff from advance auto parts for $12 each after coupon(amazon sells this, too). I finally had time to do it earlier today and the results were amazingly good as far as water beading goes(looks just like the above youtube video). I have this coated everywhere on the exterior of the car including the wheels. You really only need one bottle, I applied it twice(wash car, spray initial coating, dry with towel, rinse, spray 2nd coating, and rinse), and only used 1/3rd of the first bottle.

Will update this thread once my car gets dirty to see how well the sealant holds up.

Things like this make me wish I had:

a) A garage to apply the products in
b) Time to take the best care of my car
c) A brushless car wash somewhere nearby!

There's a long-term parking lot at Newark Liberty International Airport that offers detailing services. Whenever I go out of town, I leave my car there. I actually had the car waxed there last month, hoping that it would take a scratch out of the clear coat while they buffed it. It didn't. :( Beautiful shine though.

I don't have a garage either, my car is parked outside. I did it at a nearby car wash with self serve wash bays. I think it only took me 30 minutes to apply the 2 coats of the sealant excluding the time it took to wash my car.

If it is a scratch on the clear coat(not the paint), this polish should remove it. You can apply it by hand with a foam applicator pad. https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Mirror-Glaze-Finishing-Polish/dp/B001O7PNXC/

Just an update on how well the sealant did after the snowstorm from earlier this week and the road spray.

  • Doesn't seem to work really well on glass as far as water beading goes.
  • As far as painted surfaces, water beads really well even after a week, and road grime melts away after a wash. The water repellent effect works so well, that I can see pools of water floating on my hood when it rains, and then the wind blows that water onto my windshield as I'm driving.
  • Wheels look like new after a wash even with all the brake dust, salt, road grime/sludge.
Only thing I regret is that I didn't apply this stuff to my door jams and underneath the edge of the trunk where the rear camera is located.

Thanks for the update. Do you see a difference in the areas where the wax wasn't applied (door jambs, trunk edge)? Also, since you mentioned the spray is safe for multiple surfaces, do you think applying this to the lower radar sensor would help to prevent ice build-up on the sensor while driving?

I haven't clean the door jams yet but underneath the rear camera trunk edge definitely requires wiping to remove the road grime. Spraying that area with a pressure washer didn't fully clean that area like the rest of the car.

I didn't spray the sensor during my initial coating but I doubt the wax sealant prevents ice build up. I had ice on my whole car during the snow and rain storm last Sunday.
I just realize you mention while driving... I didn't drive my car during the storm so I have no idea if water will bead faster than it could form into ice.
Another update after 2 months applying this stuff.

  • The water beading is still really effective so I assume the sealant is bonded to the paint and haven't disappeared. I'm impressed mainly cause the soap from the tunnel wash I go through every 2-3 days haven't removed it.
  • Some small specks of contamination is on the paint from daily driving. Would require a clay bar to remove it.
  • Water beading is a positive when you have wind blowing the water off your car. Not so much when you have it parked and the water beads just sit there. I notice other cars parked after raining dry much faster than mine.
  • I like how it works on the alloy wheels. Can be driving through slushy dirty snow, the car would look dirty, but the wheels still look clean.
  • I also applied this stuff to my door jambs. Had black grime caked on them for a couple of weeks. I just needed to wipe with a lightly wet towel and everything came right off.

I decided to do some spring cleaning on my Insight today so I applied a new coating of Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax. I applied it more thoroughly this time instead of rushing thanks to the warmer spring weather. The car wash I went to wasn't busy so I could take my time in the self-wash bay which was nice.

The Husky floor mats also cleaned up nicely with the high pressure washer mixed with soap. They look like new again after having so much salt and road grime caked on it. The carpet underneath the Husky looks just as new as the day I got it so the Husky definitely protected the floor of my Insight.

While towel drying my Insight, I saw a nice touch of blue chrome right underneath the front chrome wing grille, which I never noticed was part of the Insight exterior design :surprise:. One hour after drying my car it rained  but I was able to take some nice pictures of the water beads from the Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax. :smile_big:

Wow! Your Insight is CLEAN! Husky floor-mats rock!
I just did some spring cleaning a few days ago(it was filled with dust everywhere and touchscreen covered in fingerprints). Pressure washed the husky floor mats, cleaned the glass (rear windshield is a pain in the butt, waiting on that tool @insightfully suggested to come in the mail), and uv protected all the rubber/plastic before it gets too hot for me to bother doing it.

I'm going to have mine detailed the next time I leave it at EWR. The long -term parking lot has an attached detail service, which is really convenient. Dust is all over the black interior, and other debris is in the cup holders and on the phone mat.

What tool was that andrew28 - I missed it....

Your spring cleaning is definitely motivating me; your picture looked like a brand new car fresh off the lot. Did you use/recommend anything special for the UV protection, or just the standard 'armor all' treatment?

I liked the Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax so much that I decided to check out the other products they sold. I chose the Meguiar's Perfect Clarity glass cleaner and Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer cleaner based on amazon reviews. I bought them for $5 each in store at Advance Auto Parts. They both have a really nice scent to them without a strong chemically smell, too.

Drawing from your example, I plan to invest time washing and detailing my Insight this weekend using the Meguiar's products you suggested. I have a few questions I hoped you could answer from your experience:
1 - Have you seen any 'hazing' where the HCW is applied to rubber/plastic trim or tires? I've seen videos applying it to windows and hub caps which make sense; but wasn't sure about "plastic" applications which other waxes warn against for damage.
2 - Did you find the HCW formula thick and/or "grabby"? Did 2nd coat application get easier? Online reviews mentioned the HCW formula being thicker for application than others; would like to know what to expect as 'normal' or not for 1st 'wipe on' base coat.
3 - Did you 'spray on' additional coats, and if so, did you use a pressure washer to apply? One youtuber suggests wiping on ALL coats for best coverage, despite Meguiar's instructions. What do you think from your experience? Also how much water pressure is needed to properly apply the 'spray' coats?
4 - Any tips/tricks/watchouts to share when using the interior detailer product?

Also FYI - it looks like Meguiar's is offering a $5 rebate on the Hybrid Ceramic Wax (purchase by 12/31/19, submit by 1/15/20, limit 1 per household). Your net purchase price could be knocked down to $7.

If you have 40 or so minutes to watch the below video. That Meguiar's guy did a good job explaining how to apply it(I forgot at what point he gave out the instructions) and why it needs to done like this.

  1. It's safe to apply it on plastic/rubber/tires/glass but the formula is designed to work best with paint(which explains why the water beading didn't last really long for me with glass). From my experience, I didn't get any hazing. You do not need to apply too much, since a little goes a long way. Areas like the hood & roof should only need 3 sprays. Door panels one or two sprays.
  2. The HCW formula is suppose to be thick because it needs a high pressure hose to spread it around evenly(I used one of those self serve wash bays at my local car wash). For first application, just wash the car like normal, leave the car wet after rinsing, spray some HCW, and wipe dry with a microfiber towel.
  3. You're going to get the most use out of a bottle if you do it like the first application each time. If you want to do it quickly, spraying the HCW, and rinsing it off with a high pressure hose works, too. Just remember to not overdo it, and coating the whole car with the stuff. 3 trigger pulls should be max for areas like the hood/roof, and 1-2 trigger pulls for other areas(move the bottle horizontal or vertical as you're pulling the trigger instead of just splattering it in one spot). When I first did it, I did apply a 2nd coat with the spray on HCW, and rinse method. Just because I wanted to see the water beading immediately instead of waiting for rain.
  4. The Quik Interior Detailer Cleaner is pretty straightforward since it's safe for all of the interior surfaces including the display audio screen. You just need to make sure the surface is not too hot and work on one area at a time. 1-2 trigger pulls and wipe.

Thanks for the response and video link. Fortunately, I have 40 minutes to spare since it's a long-weekend. :) Hoping for results that are as good as you and others have posted online.

Good luck and I'm sure you will get good results from it. You pretty much can't mess up unless you empty half the bottle during your first application.
