The map update was free and took a good long while to install.

Only problem I had with it was that after installing the nav features in the gauge cluster stopped working. No compass, and no directions displayed...just a blank grid.
Luckily, everything came back by doing a full factory reset on the head unit (not just the nav app)

I think its great that Honda/Garmin gives you free map updates for 5 years! My previous Hyundai Elantra Limited offered map updates at $249 each and every year, sometimes twice a year. So having the ability to do these updates for free and at home is really a great feature to have!

My update went smooth with no gauge issues. I wonder what the cause of your problem was? I wouldn’t like having to do a reset because I loaded new maps.

I started the update process through my Display Audio. When I plugged the USB into my Mac, Garmin Express reported that my car was a Honda Accord, not an Insight. Not great, but at least it's not reporting that it's a Toyota or something.

On the other hand, there is disconcerting language in the Garmin updater:

"Critical files are going to be loaded to the SD card/USB flash drive, so it must remain in your in-dash system at all times (even after the update). If the SD card/USB flash drive is removed, your in-dash system will not work."

I have two questions after reading that:

(a) Is this for real? I have to permanently take up a USB slot? Thank god I don't have an LX, with its sole USB port.
(b) "My in-dash system will not work"? Surely they only mean the Navigation tab, at worst? No way does this take down all of HondaLink if the USB isn't plugged in.

Does anyone have experience with this, maybe on other Hondas?

I contacted Garmin product support, who responded with the following:

"For your 2019 Honda Insight, there won't be a map update just yet. The 2019 model years have not been added into our database as of yet.

Garmin Express should not show it as a Honda Accord though. Will you format your Flash Drive and try the process again and see if Garmin Express shows it as an Accord again? If it does, I'll send out another email with some information that I will need to create a case for our team to look into it. You can use the link below to format the Flash Drive.

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?productID=549791&searchQuery=format&tab=topics&faq=tvLdh9IRB15JMsn28YFeA6"

I reformatted the drive and deleted the device from Garmin Express, but it re-showed up as a Honda Accord. No clue why that's happending. HOWEVER, I was able to update to 2019.11 tonight, just as advertised in the online instructions.

You only need to leave the update plugged into the USB until it finishes installing. I didn’t think it took a terribly long time to complete the installation. My old TomTom stand alone GPS takes longer.

Thank you..i will try out the "less fuel" selection....

As for now, the Android Car Play NAV is more user friendly. I can actually select different pre-planned routes...and also avoids up coming delays/heavy traffic/accidents up ahead so to go around it for a different route.

Also, is there a way I can "update" the Honda in-car NAV in my Touring?
I have a video on my channel showing how to do this if you want a visual reference.

2020 Garmin Maps Update

I didn't see a thread for this on here, so hopefully I'm not duplicating.

I got the email notification that new maps updates were available.

It is not super straightforward, but not too complicated either.

All of the instructions are available online when you receive the email, so I won't go into detail here, but I will offer a few suggestions.

Use a 16GB or 32GB usb stick, the vehicle may have formatting issues with a larger capacity stick.

I have a fast home internet connection (100mbps+) and it took about 90 mins to download the new maps data.

The maps data is about 10GB.

It only took about 35mins for the maps data to install into the vehicle.

Hello everyone! I'm new to the group and need some help with my 2020 Insight. I'm trying to update the map and I got to the point on the Garmin Express where you hit Install and it tries to locate my USB flash drive but, it can't find it. It gives me the option to select the actually drive in a drop down box but, when I select and hit continue it gives me a message about putting in a memory card that has at least 11gb of free space but, a flash drive with less than 32gb of total memory. I've attached a photo of the flash drive I'm trying to use. I'll try and post a photo of the error message I'm getting tomorrow. Thank you for any help that can be proved!
