Not pressing Power button before getting out of the car...

My first car with a stop/ start button and yet I have a question about what happens when you leave the car? Specifically, I have repeatedly found that "x" number of minutes after I have gone to work or gone into the house, I am second-guessing whether I actually pressed the stop/ start button to turn off the car. I am so used to taking a key out of the ignition that I really need to get ingrained the habit of "knowing" that I turned off the car with the stop/ start button. Anyone else have this issue? I wonder what happens if I don't press the button, leave the car for the night and then...10-12 hours later go back to the car? I have no idea if the car has an "auto-off" feature...after "x" number of minutes, the electric turns off automatically without driver input?

If you select Home > Setting > Vehicle > Door Settings, you can change the how the car locks and unlocks... I changed the settings there because I wanted the doors to automatically lock when I walked away and be able to hear it beep and flash.
I would assume that the doors will not automatically lock if the engine is still on. Would have to test this...
Here’s some info from the owners manual..

Warning buzzers may sound from inside and/or outside the vehicle to remind you that the remote is out of the vehicle. If the buzzer continues even after the remote is put back inside, place it to be within its operational range.■

When the power mode is in ON
If the remote is taken out of the vehicle, and all doors are closed, a warning buzzer sounds from both inside and outside the vehicle. A warning message on the driver information interface notifies the driver inside that the remote is outside of the vehicle.■

When the power mode is in ACCESSORY
If the remote is taken out of the vehicle, and all the doors are closed, a warning buzzer sounds from outside the vehicle.
Goldy, thanks for the info. I read the owners manual online and did NOT see the info that you posted from the owners manual. Yours must be in the printed owners manual - which apparently is different than the online PDF one that I have been reviewing.

That one sentence you posted makes very little sense: "If the buzzer continues even after the remote is put back inside, place it to be within its operational range." What does that mean? Where does one place the remote if not inside? It's operational range? I guess that means the remote must be physically outside the car but within three feet of the panels?
That was right from the online pdf. Check the section called “Operating the Swtches Around The Steering Wheel” starting on page 190.
Operational Range

The operational range is the inside of the vehicle. See page 190 top right image of vehicle.
Thanks Goldy and PFlinker. Turns out I read the owners guide on PDF and not the owners manual. Not nearly as many pages in the owners guide.
To clarify and answer your main question, the car wont turn off if you leave it on with out any user input, however if the car is on and it detects the car key leaving the vehicle, the car will beep loudly multiple times to remind you that you are leaving the car on.
And from experience I can tell you the trunk won’t close with a key in it. I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get it closed and my wife remembered her key was in a bag she had just put in the trunk.

I once pulled in the driveway and got distracted to the point I didn't know the car was on when I got out (because it's silent). It's a good thing to know (now) that the car will put itself in park automatically when you open the door (and step out). It screamed at me (beeps) when I walked away with the keyfob to let me know. It will also put itself in park if you hit the stop button without selecting park first. Honda thought of everything - they even have the fan blower lower itself so the voice recognition can hear you better!
Will the Insight turn off if accidentally left on?

I have a 2020 Insight and have a safety question. My sister's friends both passed away from carbon monoxide poisoning because they forgot to turn off their hybrid (not Honda) after putting it in the garage. After the battery finally died it went to gas mode. Questions: Does the Insight do the same thing - go to gas mode after the battery runs out? If so, is there way to program it so it will turn everything off after a certain amount of time? I could not find the answer in the user manual.

Welcome to the forum. Overall, once the car is Powered On in drive-ready mode, it stays running (EV/gas/hybrid) even after the key fob is removed from the car's proximity. The car won't turn off unless the power button is pressed, and there isn't a programming feature that Honda shares on this. (And as semi-related FYI, if someone steals the car while it's in drive mode and the key fob is no longer in the car, the car stays running until it's powered down.)

When the driver's door is opened (and driver's seat belt is unfastened) while the car is still Powered On, the transmission will shift itself to Park and a warning tone and message will display. From OM19 pg 460:
6214

If the driver progresses further to exit while the car is still running (i.e. key fob is removed from operating range while the car is still Powered On and all the doors are closed), loud warning tones sound both inside and outside the car. From OM19 pg 192:
6213

If the car is only in Accessory mode (vs fully powered on and running) and left in Park for 30-60 minutes, the car automatically turns off to avoid draining the 12V battery. However, this mode is likely maintained by EV only (vs gas). From OM19 pg 151:
6211

I was helping someone jump start their car with my FOB in my pocket. With the driver's door open as I walked to help hook up the cables the engine shut off and the car went to accessory mode. Not immediately, maybe after a minute or two. I did get the "remote not detected" message, but had to sit down, press the pedal and push the start button again. That was my experience with this.
Thank you for replying to this. So if I walk away with my remote, and my car on and in park nothing will happen except it will beep at me and keep running and possibly run in gas mode after the battery dies. If I walk away with my remote, and my car in accessory mode it will turn off after 30 minutes in battery mode. Correct? Seems like they could program it somehow so that the horn goes off after 15 minutes if in park and on with no remote.

Yes. You can read about @BILLBOGEY's experience with leaving the car powered on and walking away in the following thread - Why does one have to press the Power button to...

Technically, remote start powers up the gas engine when needed - with the car in park and with no remote on hand. Remote start isn't 100% drive-ready mode, but just short of it (need to put foot on brake and press power button to start up). Programming an alert might conflict with use of remote start feature.
