EX owner here. I've noticed an annoying issue where if my Insight is locked and I open the trunk using the physical trunk handle on the car, it will sense my key in my pocket, unlock the trunk, and allow me to open it. But then when I close the trunk, my security alarm immediately goes off every single time! It's quite frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions on how to fix it besides just taking the extra stop to unlock the entire car before I open the trunk??

I'm guessing it's happening because with the rest of the vehicle still locked, the alarm is remaining activated even with the trunk being open. But the Insight Manual (attached screenshot here) says the alarm does not activate if the trunk is opened using the smart entry system. So this would appear to be a glitch.

I'd love if anyone was willing to test this situation on their EX to see if the alarm goes off so I know if it's a glitch only with my specific Insight or all of them. Thanks ya'll!

P.S. - Been reading this forum for a few months now but this is my first post. You've all been so helpful and I hope I can add to all the great conversation.

I just went out and tested my EX and it worked fine. No alarm sound.

I'm curious if you guys have a dealership installed aftermarket alarm on your insights? The stock alarm does not have a shock sensor so slamming a trunk (or door) should not make the alarm sound.

d3n13d, just debunked my theory of a shock sensor. Do you have access to schematics, or what reference do you have about the lack of shock sensor in the car. I'm just curious.

Wish I had some technical documentation for ya as that is what I like but...my dealership told me the factory alarm does not come with a shock sensor and the manual only makes a mention of the alarm activating when the hood, doors, or trunk are forcibly opened.. or when a door is unlocked manually without use of the transmitter or smart entry system.

If this is true, that there is no shock sensor. Then the OP and anyone experiencing this. Do indeed have a problem.

It'll be at least a month before I have access to the information I need to confirm or deny this, unfortunately.

I don't have this issue with my Insight or the other reported issue where the trunk wouldn't lock and sounds off 3 warning beeps. Best advice is to bring it to the dealership to get it fix.

Indeed, my initial thought is that the dealership bundled in an alarm when the car was purchased. They usually don't openly disclose that it is an aftermarket alarm which then can cause issues such as these. My suggestion is to check with dealership that car was purchased from, they should be responsible for the alarm they installed if indeed there is an aftermarket addition to the factory alarm.

If the issue is something else then the car has a warranty.

Same on my EX - no issue opening and closing the trunk while the car is locked; doesn't trigger an audible alarm. It's a handy feature and I use it often, so I hope your car gets fixed.

If your dealer doesn't advise of an aftermarket alarm installation, maybe the trunk is registering as one of the doors in the alarm system and/or sensitivity setting too sensitive for how the car defines 'forcible' open -?

This exact thing happens to me too. If I close the trunk too hard, it goes off. I have to gently close it in order to prevent it from going off. Have you heard anything from anyone? Maybe the dealership?
We may have different issues, because no matter how softly I close my trunk the alarm will always go off as long as the rest of the car is locked. So I don't think it's related to a shock sensor?

Thank you for testing your car! Good to know it's specific to my vehicle. To my knowledge I only have the standard alarm that came with the car. I know when the dealer installed alarm was offered to me I rejected it and didn't pay extra. Unless it's possible it was already installed in the car and they deactivated it and now it's causing issues?

I took a video of the issue so you can hear the exact alarm noise (forgive me for how dirty the car is haha): https://www.dropbox.com/s/k7344kqog6xl44v/Car Alarm.mp4?dl=0

My dealership isn't very close to me, so I've been waiting until my first oil change is due to bring it in and ask them about it. Since I can just unlock the car before opening the trunk to avoid the alarm it's not a huge deal, but definitely something I want fixed at some point.

Haha, I jumped a little due to having my sound turned up when the alarm went off. I was expecting the other alarm noise (leaving car while it's still running or keyfob still in car). I close my trunk as shown in your video and I don't have this issue. Definitely get that check out when you get the chance.

My daughter just noticed this same issue with her EX. Happens every single time she closes the trunk when doors are locked. Workaround is to unlock doors before opening trunk. She is going to have it looked at this week.
Yeah I've just been unlocking it first for now, but would be nice not to have to. Let me know what they say after she has it looked at!

I open and close my EX trunk all the time with the doors locked. All that happens is the hazard lights flash once to show the Honda security system is rearmed when the trunk is closed. Its never set off the alarm.

Same here. Mine has never gone off and I open and close it frequently with the doors locked.
