On the EX trim, with Lane Watch, is the driver's side mirror one of those hall of mirrors type mirrors as on the Clarity or is it a regular side mirror?

Here's what I mean.

On the Clarity, the side mirror has an outer portion that distorts the view, supposedly to show you the blind spot. I found it distorting — and even distracting from the regular view! The overall experience was a little vertigo, nausea inducing!

I was in an Insight the other day and the driver's mirror was fine, but it may have been an LX trim!

EX is also a regular mirror. I’m glad Honda didn’t add that as it was one things I didn’t like about my 15 Civic I traded for my Insight EX

My EX has a regular mirror. I actually feel like I don’t see the cars well enough without the outer edge being magnified like it was in the FIT. There have been numerous times I look in my mirror and don’t see a car and then have a car pass me on the left.

Was thinking of adding a blind spot mirror to the drivers side.

Jojo, have you tried the old trick of adjusting the mirror so that you don't see the back edge of your car? And, do see the other lane?

That way, the car coming up will be in your rear mirror until it transitions into the side mirror. The two overlap.

This is the key:

Lean your head against the left window and adjust the left mirror so you just barely see the left side of your car.

Then, lean to the right, to about the middle of your dash, and adjust the right mirror just until you can just barely see the right side.”

Interesting. I do position the mirror so that I can barely see the car on both sides but I don’t lean against the window. Usually it’s been cars that I saw in my mirror and then I think about changing lanes and don’t see the car that was there but it’s there next to behind me

I've used it for years with our ancient Honda Accord and the cars coming up in the left lane literally move from being seen in the rear mirror to be being seen in the side one.

Of course, we also tend to shift lanes very cautiously, always with the turn signal first, and making sure the following car on the left is well behind us.

I hate turning my head quickly to look over my shoulder and this obviates doing that most of the time!

Perhaps Honda should make sure that all its side mirrors come set up this way, with a default push button setting, and call it “Blind Spot Mirror Watch”!

I have always used them, swear by them and recommend them to others. I tried the trick/mirror adjustments above last night and was a little weirded out by it. I'm going to give it a little more time and if I can't get comfortable with it, I'll go back to using those little mirrors.

BTW, my first post. I'm loving the car and the forum community.

Definitely give it a week or two. When you are out and about, test it by watching those cars coming up in the outer lane and moving from your rear mirror to the side one. Pretty spiffy, actually!

Just change lanes slowly in the meantime until you get used to it!

This works! I never knew this method of adjusting the mirrors, but tried it a couple months ago and it really helps. The cheapest BSM available! Now if I could just convert my wife to this method...

The new view is super helpful but does take a little getting used to. There's much more action on the rear/side than I was used to seeing, and I can't use the side mirrors to see behind me, which is something I had previously done quite a bit.

A similar (?) technique for getting the side mirrors in place is to sit 'as normal' and move them outward until there's little to no overlap with the image seen in the rear view mirror. Both methods definitely maximize use of the mirrors viewing range.

I have always knew about having the side mirrors adjusted to the point where you can't see the rear of your car. I just didn't know about the technique where you lean your head until it touches your window. So I had the right idea but still need to do shoulder checks before lane changing.

This works! I never knew this method of adjusting the mirrors, but tried it a couple months ago and it really helps. The cheapest BSM available! Now if I could just convert my wife to this method...

I've also found that the seat height matters on the Insight vis-a-vis the side mirrors!

I was sitting too high up and not getting as good a passenger side view. OTOH, the Lane Watch camera is marvelous! I'm going to update that other thread where I asked about it!

The one thing I really miss is the blind spot warning on the left side. Yah, I love the right mirror camera -- but I still have a big blind spot on the left side...

Left Side: Put your face against the window and adjust until you just barely see the car door. Now when a car approaches from behind in the left lane, you will see it leave your center rear view mirror and at the same time it will appear in your left side view mirror. Magic! It's all done with mirrors.
Right Side: lean into the center of the cabin and adjust so that you just barely see the door.

Right! I learned this many YEARS ago from Car Talk on the radio. It takes a little while to get used to it, but in my opinion it's better than the little blind spot lights. (I wish I could convince my wife to adjust mirrors like this.)
