This is my first experience with satellite radio and I have to say, I am loving it. I'm not sure I'm loving it enough to subscribe at the end of the trial, though. I thought I heard somewhere that if you choose not to subscribe, you will still get some basic channels. Is this true? Thanks

I’m not sure about that, but you can get a good deal. I’ve had it for about four years on my Jeep. Every time it’s going to come up for renewal I call them to cancel. They offer me a better deal...and I say no that’s still too much. I say no two or three times and they end end with a price that’s about what an introductory deal is. The first few times I ended up getting 5 months for about $30. Last time I got a year for $73. You just need to set up a reminder to call them a day or two before it would auto-renew at regular price. I’m not sure what I’ll do on the Insight yet. My wife is the main driver and she’s not as hooked on Sirius as I am.

I have a lifetime subscription to Sirius, effective on my receiver only (not me). I bought it for $550 about a year before Stern made his announcement. I grew up on Stern (NYC) and have definitely got my $$ out of the initial cost. Now, however, all I listen to are podcasts. I wouldn't pay for the monthly service.

If you don't subscribe you get nothing. They do have free basic channels around many of the holidays for a week or so to try to hook you. I've had Sirius for about 6 years in my other car. Every 6 months I call them to "cancel" a couple days before it auto-renews and they offer me their specials. Each time I get 6 months for $30.

If you wait until the last minute, you'll get a deal mailed to you. I ordered it early and got nothing. My wife waited on her Civic and got, like, six months for just a few bucks. After that, who knows. I have a 1.5 hour drive yto work and enjoy the news channels.

I just let my subscription run out to see what would happen...all I got was a single channel with a phone number to call to renew. So I tried the number and was only offered the standard published rates.

Then I searched Sirius on line and was able to re-up for the "select" programming (missing Howard Stern and NFL games) for 6 months @ $30.($5 per month). Within 5 minutes after re-up, the Sirius re-activated in the car and I did not have to re-program my previously selected stations. I could care less about not getting Howard Stern and I never listened to NFL in the car anyway.
