Hi. I had a 2020 Insight (base model here in Canada, pretty much same as an EX). Sadly a F-150 hit the Landrover infront of me, which then landed on my hood. Car is a write off.

I looked at my options and decided just straight up replace it with a second hand insight, but I'm pretty much the only person in the country who has the base model meaning most are a bit pricier than what I'm getting or have a lot more miles.

I did find one 2019 Touring with the same miles, at a good price. It had a 10k (7k USD) repair about 3 years ago on the right side described as minor damage (wasn't an recorded accident, so probably a parking lot collision).

But it seems like the previous owner was just bad at driving.

Wen I actually test drove the car, it also had a big hole (close to an inch or so) on right corner front bumper, any idea what kinda problems that'll give me? Should I get it patched up ASAP?

The driver sid rear door also is a bit off, and the rim on the door is a bit damaged, kind looks like maybe he slammed the door closed with semething sticking out. Think I can live with it, but any advice is appreciated. See photo.

Finally, anyone got undercarriage photos? I think it looks different than mine, and I'm thinking the skid plate is missng, but I don't really know, and since I'm buying it from a Cadillac dealer, they have no clue what they're looking at.

We have a lot of salt here in Ontario, and I'm one of those people who keeps my car until it's scrap, so I'm a little unsure what to do with a car that's had "minor" body damage, other than scraped bumpers, I've never so much as had a prang on my car.

Those are not stock wheels. It sounds like that car lived a hard life. I would get a pre-purchase inspection done (your guy, not at the Cadillac dealer) before thinking about purchasing it. If you can look under the car and see the oil filter, the belly pan is indeed missing.

Sounds like he got sideswiped, meaning probably a crease and a bunch of messed up paint. For $7k in damages, it probably included replacing the door skins and repainting that side of the car, ultimately not a big deal as long as the paint looks good. The photo looks like he might have lightly rubbed against a parking pole. I’d consider that dent extremely minor and the hole in the bumper won’t hurt anything, but hopefully the price is good with these flaws. It all boils down to whether it will bother you and if the car drives like your old one.

I have a few dents on my car but they are small and I can’t see them unless I look for them so I’ve learned to ignore and move on.

I normally avoid vehicles with an accident. Especially one with $7k damages and no record of it. 😬 There's a lot of assumptions, if you assume wrong, you end up buying the previous owner's problems.

What's the price for the Insight?

I ended up buying it (29k canadian all in car with 50k km). By comparison, cars with 70-100k km and no damage/clean history are selling for closer to 33-35k. I got 35k from the insurance company (and mine was regular trim rather than touring)

Here, if there's no police report, it means the damage was either not a collision, or more likely, a parking lot collisioir).

My biggest concern is that in a parking lot, a sideswipe would be a bit less likely and a t-bone more likely. However, I suppose he could also have just gotten a little too close to a pole or something, and given what I've heard about repairs, I think I my sense of how expensive even just reskinnig/repainting is was a bit off. Given the multiple bits of body damage on the vehicle, I'm inclined to think the previous driver had troubles judging distances. Hopefully his new car has 360 sonar.

Tangential, he also didn't keep the firmware in his car up-to-date, and as I recall there was an update a while back that if we didn't do on time, our only choice was heading to the dealer. But I guess since it's a 2019 I have to do it anyway (two days after I signed the seatbelt recall was announced).
