What purpose - ECO Score?

Hi All,
New insight owner here and I’ve looked everywhere for detailed info on the DVI, but find nothing. Can anyone explain what the 1,2 and 3 bars are in the Eco drive mode? Am I supposed to be able to switch to each? No where on Honda’s site or the owners manual do they explain each screen in detail. Neither do they even mention the 2 steering wheel paddles.

Thanks,
Techerman

If you haven’t done so yet, you’ll want to download the pdf of the full owners manual from the Honda Owners website. The one that comes with the car is a much shorter ‘guide’. The full ma Hal has a lot more information on the driver interface. It’s still lacking in explainations of how to interpret things, but answers quite a few of the common questions.
Agreed! Two of the most puzzling issues for me as well are the paddle shifters and the Eco screen that flashes as you turn the car off. I have the full manual......still fuzzy on those two things.
Eco mode at shutoff... report card on how you did during that drive. the more bars, the better.
Paddles... left paddle increases regenerative decel, right paddle decreases it. It's very similar to paddles that shift gears down or up on a car with a "normal" transmission. Go down a hill, take your foot off the gas, and pull the left paddle and feel the decel. Then pull it again and feel it, then pull it a third time. Feels like you put it in first gear. You'll also notice the little chevrons go from 1 to 2 to 3 as you pull.

HTH...

Green Leaves

When you park you’re Insight row of green leaves appear

Can anyone explain the different rows and what they mean ?
Attached is some detail from P17 and P151 of the Owners Manual. It's called a "Drive Cycle Score." The top row (leaves) scores the drive you just completed; the bottom row (bars) scores your lifetime. The score can be reset using the attached instructions.

For those with more miles on their Insights, I've been wondering how many miles it took before you saw the "second level" of leaves appear -?

I don't really "get" the point of the ECO score screen that pops up briefly when the car is shut down. It seems to be giving feedback on driving efficiency on a cumulative basis since the car was new? What is it actually measuring besides (I assume) MPG in arriving at this score? Can it be reset, if not- does it's reporting lose meaningful relevance at some point as the car accumulates mileage?

The score can be reset using the attached instructions. Resetting can be helpful if the car is re-sold or if you as a driver want to change and measure a new driving technique. But I believe the car uses the cumulative rating to determine how hard you're driving the car (i.e. amount of electric vs gas engine use, eco/normal/ev/sport modes), which plays into the car's calculation of relative oil life remaining. Even if the score is reset, I think the car "keeps" the information until the maintenance minder is reset.

I mostly drive in Eco mode, and think a new level of "leaves" get added for every 1500 miles that I drive.

So, what is these little leaves for and why are they important

So... 'importance' is probably debatable... :)

It's intended to be a feedback indicator for how "green" or fuel efficient your driving is. It's called a "Drive Cycle Score" where the top row (leaves) scores the drive you just completed, and the bottom row (bars) scores your lifetime driving. It's a common question, as also asked in this "What Purpose - ECO Score" thread.
Never really understood how the trees work and what they mean. I've got 4 trees and some other things but so what?
New owner as well and totally baffled by the trees.

Still on tank 1 and sitting at 300 miles in my Touring and average is showing 45.5 mpg. Pretty happy with that.

It's a feedback tool that scores the fuel efficiency of your drive, called a "Drive Cycle Score."

The top row (green leaves) gives feedback on the drive you just completed. When I drive very light-footed, I get 5 full 'trees' and 'branches' across the top. When I drive more heavy-footed, I've seen fewer than 5 trees with not all branches/leaves.

The bottom row (horizontal gray bars) is feedback on your lifetime driving score. It seems to keep a running score of all the '5 full trees' from your prior drives. Once you have a certain number of drives (or miles?) for which '5 full trees' have been achieved, the scoring system will take you to the next level, adding a new tier of leaves. When you transition levels, a 'trophy' image of a tree with new tier of leaves appears briefly after you turn off the car.

See this thread for snapshot from manual, including info on how to reset the score back to original to restart the drive scoring 'game': https://www.gen3insight.com/forum/258-honda-insight-features-equipment/2110-eco-score-rating.html
