My roommate has a 2018 CR-V that has a dashboard just like the thumb in @elvin's post. I actually really like it.

I also came from an 8th Gen Civic with GIANT digital readout right in your face, and am having real trouble with the dial. Talk about first world problems! haha

Waze can display a digital speedometer in CarPlay & Android Auto now. It's not perfect due to having to glance to your right but it's something.

the only time I worry about the speedo is when I am on the highway, then I just set the cruise to my desired state of unlawfullness and pay attention to Waze (which shows your MPH very accurately via GPS) for police up ahead and other things we do not want to play with.. I can read the needle and I can set the speed digitally.. My fiancee is very much a fan of the digital mph readout on my last car but she can still read the needle.

I would agree. Get rid of the drive mode indicator and econ leaf, and give us a digital numerical speedo. That's one thing I will miss from my '08 Civic. I really have to look at the speedo and think about where the needle is instead of just looking up and seeing the number. I've gotten a couple tickets due to absentmindedly speeding. So I tend to set my cruise control for whatever the speedloimit is and leave itat that so , hopefully, the speedometer thing won't be much of an issue.

Along these lines of setting your speed, you may want to try your next test drive using Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Some forum members use it 90+% of the time for everyday (non-highway) driving, and the car 'almost' drives itself including stop/start. Check out this thread on ACC for more thoughts on this from forum members.

We do have a digital speedometer but it's only in KPH instead of MPH. The Canadian Insight has the opposite and I assume the Mexican Insight is similar. Honda probably did it like this in case we need to drive across the border but for some reason didn't allow both KPH/MPH in either country.

We can use the below solutions currently and hope Honda pushes out a software update to add MPH to our digital speedometer.

  • You can download a speedometer app on your phone and attach it on a vent holder.
  • Use Waze via CarPlay/Android Auto with the speedometer showing on the right side of the display audio screen.

As of now there is no simple fix. Countless people have complained to Honda, but please do as well. It's super simple on their end, a simple software patch, but they have expressed no intent on fixing this.

I'll double check my Insight tonight because they updated my DII software last week for an issue and see if it's there, but I doubt it.

Agreed, especially when it's literally a piece of software.

I know obdII monitors like the scanguage will show it, but it doesn't mesh well with the interior look of the car, and they aren't cheap.

It'd be useful to have all of the other monitors, just don't love the packaging or price point for supplemental data.

Hey guys,
Just registered and first time poster. Hope I am understanding folks correctly in this thread as I am too confused on the digital speedometer. Here is my story...

Purchased a 2018 Honda EX-L last year. Some time during the first few months I "think" I watched a review or saw a picture of a Honda with the digital speedometer. I was like, heck yeah, I always wanted a digital speedometer (never had a car that had one). For the life of me though I don't recall how I added it... All I know is that it was not hard. I found some video or article on the Internet and presto it was there in MPH. After that, I never thought anything of it. I had no clue people were having issues with getting this working etc till now. Which, brings me to why I am posting. In my area (Minneapolis) Honda is running some sort of special where you can trade in your 2018 and get a 2019 with no hassle. I assume it to move the 2019 inventory to get ready for 2020... Anyways, I drive ALOT for work and already have 32k miles on my car. So I was like sure, I'll swap cars. While driving home I notice the missing digital speedometer... I was like, oh that's right I need to add it and it was some tricky yet easy way to add it. I'll just google it when I get home... Well crap... Now I am in the same boat as everyone else. I must have been lucky as **** with my 2018... I just had no idea that this was that big of a deal and why Honda is not allowing it.

Sadly, yes - you're understanding this thread correctly. There actually IS a digital speedometer available, BUT it currently only shows kph for US models, and mph for Canadian models. We'd like Honda to fix the programming on this, so we can use the digital speedometer in mph for US and kph for Canada. @Mr. Natural describes the scenario well in post #13.

How do we go about letting Honda know that want this feature back? Is there a website or email address?
You can submit concerns and suggestions within the HondaLink app. Select Support>Customer Support>Customer Feedback.

In addition to above suggestion, there's a Honda Customer Relations website with online (email, live chat, twitter) and phone options.

Snapshot is attached for quick reference, and the source website is https://owners.honda.com/help/customer-relations.

I prefer calling and talking to a person to provide feedback, and I always like to request a reference number from the phone agent as record on both sides of the interaction.

So I was happy not knowing about this but since it was a active topic I clicked on it. Darn it......I'm a software engineering and this is some bad engineering. I would love to have a MPH digital speedometer! I was happy not knowing it even existed.

And yes, I'll put in the report in the homelink app right away.

Update: my case number is #09783509
