You can see the DVD logo and the DVD option within the AV settings. After looking into it I found out that the dashcam Honda offers is made by the same company that makes the infotainment system(Gathers). Which explains the tight integration with the infotainment software.

Honda Sense has 2 more options on the Japanese Insight. The first is the cross traffic blind spot option and I believe the other one is Rear CMBS. These 2 extra features cost additional judging by the options page.

The Japanese Insight is nicer but they do pay a lot more than we do. :p
Confirming that the slot behind the infotainment system is a combination CD/DVD player, per Honda Japan webpage for the Insight (attached).

The sensors for blind spot monitoring are used for rear cross-traffic alert, similar to the Accord. In Honda's US sedans, only Accord EX trims and higher have these sensors and use them for both purposes.

The alert when reversing is called "backward misstart suppression." When stopping or reversing at low speeds (<6 mph / <10 kph), it detects obstacles (e.g. walls) that are behind and alerts with sound and suppresses throttle to avoid impact. - https://www.honda.co.jp/hondasensing/feature/r-fssf/

Price-wise, the Japanese Insight trims are slotted between the Japanese Civic (24801-29113 USD) and Japanese Accord Hybrid (35995-38326 USD), similar to the US price structure. It seems pricing is set relative to what is already in market, and the Japanese Insight trims provide features that are 1 level higher than in the US:
JP LX = 30,508 USD (3,333,050 yen)
JP EX = 33,537 USD (3,664,050 yen)
JP EX Black = 33,931 USD (3,707,050 yen)

Other things in the video:
- There's an extra button by the 'auto' climate knob with an upside-down triangle, which is an add versus US model (tho I don't know what it does).
I'm still curious what the orange tube near the passenger side floor is because I've seen it a few times in the other Japanese Insight videos/pics. Plus the honeycomb triangle button below the climate knob.
Found that the Japanese Insight Owners Manual describes this 'upside down triangle' button as a "PlasmaCluster" ionizer. it was also featured on the 2018 Clarity Fuel Cell, with description here - https://www.hondainfocenter.com/en/...-Clarity-Fuel-Cell/Vehicle-Details/Interior/Cabin-Air-Quality-Management-System

Also found that the Japanese Insight has an adjustable (removable) center rear headrest, attached. I would've liked the option to remove rear headrests on US model for better rear visibility.

The Japanese Insight has everything... :surprise: I'm just waiting for us to discover that it has a working digital speedometer. :p
- The Japanese Insight has a physical (vs digital?) dial for the speedometer.
I can definitely tell the DII is a digital display but the speedometer looks physical to me on our Insights.

It just occurred to me that the price for the Japanese Insight includes better standard technology/features AND import costs. I think the Japanese market really makes out well on this.

The cost of gas in Japan is the US equivalent of $4.80 to $5.03 per gallon over the past 3 months, so it seems like the car would sell itself in Japan on efficiency alone, even before all the technology adds.

The 2021 Insight built for the Japan market gets some additional updates beyond what's coming for the 2021 model for the US market... despite global Insight production all being sourced from the same Greensburg, Indiana, plant.
  • New "EX Prime Style" trim level -- including dark chrome plated grille & rear lower bumper garnish, Ivory interior with green accents, more prominent trunk spoiler, parking sensors, mud guards
  • Updated "EX Black Style" time level -- with 18" alloy rims, stainless steel sports pedals, and color-matched interior stitching for cars with blue and red exterior paint
  • New OEM accessory offerings -- audio upgrade, front camera system, driver recorder

From Honda Japan Press Release:
...so ""Silver Mist Green Metallic" is also a new color added to the line-up for Japan.

Not sure I like it; reminds me of the teal/green color trend of the 90s. But maybe it stays clean-looking longer than silver or white, since it has a dusty/hazy coloring advantage.

Reminds me of the crimson pearl Insight where the stock photo doesn't look as good but the one showing it outside with sunlight does for me.

Wow those 18 inch wheels look fantastic!

They're 18" Civic alloy wheels. @Kimberstanko upgraded to them if you want to check it out.

4k video of the EX Prime Style trim at Honda Japan HQ lobby.

Looks like Honda also added factory tinted glass for the rear windows but removed the Japanese spoiler for this trim.

This video is a little long, but interesting to see (with CC translation) a Japanese Insight owner profile the car after ~1.5 years of ownership. A few 'odd' things stuck out to me:
  • [03:13] The fuel door opens with a press of the exterior door (like a Civic). I think this is because the Power button is placed near the door, where the fuel release would have been.
  • [03:28] Even the lowest Insight trim in Japan (without moonroof) gets turn signals on side mirrors (plus parking sensors).
  • [10:33] The modular cupholder design is more practical than the large 2-cup tray in the US Insight; it stacks, so you don't need to place it somewhere else if you need to adjust.
  • [11:35] There are LED reading lights in addition to map lights.
  • [14:38] Comment that the Insight isn't selling well in Japan.
