So any idea why your car was not affected? Mine also falls in that date range but it is a Canadian Insight
A Honda service rep told me that some cars that were made within the affected period have the problem and some don’t..

no real explanation behind it..

im thinking Honda got more than 1 batch of fuel pumps for the cars within affected period.

maybe had say 2000 cars ready to be built and 1k we’re bad fuel pumps and the other 1k was not.

We guess-timated from Insight production sequence serial numbers (in VIN) that Honda was producing 2500-2800 Insights per month. The affected date range for 2019 models spans 9.5 months (5/23/18 to 3/8/19), so Honda would have produced ~23.7k to 26.5k Insight units in that time.

Overall, Honda mentions only 14.9k units (56-63%) of those 2019 Insights are affected... so a good 45+% of Insights for the 2019 model year will be lucky and escape this recall. It 'almost' works out to a 50/50 chance... though it sure doesn't feel that way when you see your own VIN listed on the 'unlucky' side. The affected cars were likely produced in batches.

I have a feeling this issue is more wide spread than the automakers are willing to admit. Denso could turn into the next Takata. Lawsuits are already pending for Honda, Toyota, and Subaru in both the US and Canada. I expect the recalls to be expanded as more cars in the public fleet start requiring fuel pump replacements.

On another note, I would get the fuel pump recall done before 9/23/20. Honda dealerships going to be busy this Fall.

Skimming thru the 17 (!!) documents posted:
The number of posted documents is now up to 39 total (22 new ones from June 2020) on the NHTSA site. They're posting information for all affected models within the updates, rather than just vehicle-specific updates.
There are now 53 documents (14 new ones from July 2020) posted on the NHTSA site for the fuel pump recall, as the NHTSA continues to continues to post updates for ALL Honda/Acura models rather than ones that are vehicle-specific, and they are randomly sorting the documents. [What a messy filing system...]

Among the newly-added documents are copies of the Owner Notification Letters.
  • 2019-2020 Insight Owner Notification Letter - https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2020/RCONL-20V314-3688.pdf
  • Revised instruction details for the Civic Type-R and Civic Hatchback to remove cargo floor cover, handle fuel tubes, and replace quick-connect fitting. The instructions still say to raise the front end of Civics and handles their fuel tanks being 90+% level, but this hasn't been added to or mentioned for the Insight repair instructions.
  • Parts still are not available for the HR-V (29% of US recall) or Fit (7% of US recall), so those owners received 'Interim Notification Letters' and will get a follow-up letter when parts are available.
Both the HR-V and Fit are solely produced in Mexico, which makes me wonder if the parts shortage relates to those logistics. Per the Owner Notification Letters, the NHTSA gives Honda has 60 days from the date you schedule an appointment to fix the issue without charge. And separately, Honda advises that any cars (183 units) affected before the recall was published won't get 'extra' reimbursement, since their repair was already covered under warranty.

5 new documents were added as part of the NHTSA recall, now totaling 58 files posted. Four of the new files reference the HR-V, including separate repair instructions for the AWD and 2WD versions. The fifth file is an update to the NHTSA recall report, mentioning that replacement parts for the Fit and HR-V will be available October 14, 2020. The bulletins mention that HR-V parts have already been sent to dealers, so it seems that the Fit parts (and repair instructions) are the only ones left missing from the recall.

The HR-V repair process looks more involved than the Civic, Insight, and Accord, as the HR-V fuel tank/pump placement is under the front seats. The HR-V's open "magic seat" area probably is what makes the fuel tank less accessible. No mention of fuel level rundown is made in the repair instructions for the HR-V.

I'd been waiting for the HR-V part and repair instructions to become available so that Honda Techs get more experience under their belt, with the HR-V being ~30% of the recall population. It's still a little early into the HR-V timeline, but I'm getting closer to bringing my Insight in for recall repair.

Something I don't understand is this: Honda knows what fuel pumps are on all the Insights they've made, so why not tell us which Insights do not have recallable pumps ?

Maybe because they're only required to notify where there are problems (i.e. only do what you need to do)... and it's also a shorter list to communicate In a sense, they do disclose which cars aren't affected on an individual basis by VIN check.

In total, Honda has sold 46,968 Gen3 Insights from June 2018 thru August 2020. Across model years, 14,949 Insights (31.8%) are listed as affected by the fuel pump recall.

54,000 miles, and still no recall.. Built 01/19...
3100 miles ( 5000 km ) and still no recall. Built 01/2019
From rough math above in post #64 only ~half the Insights produced in 2019 model year are affected. It's good new that you both happen to be in the "lucky" / unaffected half.

I wouldn't expect your news to change, as Honda isolated which parts and cars were affected. In the US, vehicle manufacturers are required to advise owners by mail within 60 days after notifying the NHTSA of a recall decision. Canada doesn't list a similar timeline requirement, but for liability reasons, I don't think Honda would sit on notifying owners in other countries once Honda has researched the information for the US.

In combing thru this forum trying to assess the possibilities that my 2019 Insight (manufactured 11/2018) will be recalled, I could find only these clues:

Affected Insights are within the manufactured dates from May 23, 2018 to Mar 08, 2019 (14,949 affected units)

Also, dates from Aug 26,2019 to Sep 17, 2019 (10 affected units)

* Customer notification will be completed by end of July

Forum owners who reported they had received recall notices ::

B-Man Mfg 10/2018

andrew28 Mfg 9/2018

I wonder when the uncertainty will ever end ?

Also above, only 50% of 2019 model year Insights are affected, and notice to owners must be made within 60 days of reporting to NHTSA. The number of affected cars has stayed constant, and I would feel clear if I were in your position (i.e. no news is good news).

The responsibility is on Honda, and shouldn't become your burden. If you're really concerned and/or want to end the uncertainty, you could ask you dealer to verify... but that information should match what you find via the Honda Recall site and the NHTSA Recall site.

Reports of those who received notices and had the recall repair done are captured in the "Recall Repair Experience" thread. Majority (90+%) received notices, and only a few had the dealer find/do on unplanned basis.

64 total documents are now posted under this fuel pump recall (6 new ones). It includes 3 'second notice' documents to Fit and HR-V owners advising that parts are now available, an installation update for the HR-V emphasizing gasket handling and fit, and a quarterly report on the recall status.

With ~136k vehicles affected in the US and owner notification 7/22/20, only ~46% of affected cars have completed the recall as of 10/14/20. 36% of the affected cars are HR-V and Fits, for which owners were just notified in October of parts availability, so the next update on this will likely increase dramatically.

Denso expanded the recall on the fuel pumps.

I thought I had lucked out on this one. Unfortunately I just got this from Carfax, even though it's not posted at NHTSA or Honda yet for my Vin. We have a 2020 Touring.

This is kind of big, in that... 1) CarFax alerts are accurate and they usually notify owners earliest (before Honda or NHTSA), and 2) the alert is titled "recall expansion."

The original fuel pump recall bulletin listed 'only' 10 US Insights affected from the 2020 model year (plus 14949 Insights from 2019 model year, as part of 135,995 total Hondas recalled). These numbers reflected about a ~50/50 chance of fuel pump issue among 2019-2020 Insights built within the affected time window.

Info isn't posted yet on the NHTSA site for numbers affected by this "recall expansion." But as of Jan 2021, Honda reports that 94.2k of 136k affected cars have completed recall repair so far.

I thought I lucked out too but got that email yesterday as well. Good thing is at this point, a lot of Honda dealerships are experienced in replacing it.
