My infotainment screen has reset itself three separate times on different occasions while driving. Has anyone had this issue?
Was your phone plugged in at the time and/or were you using CarPlay or Android Auto when the screen went black? 'Flaky USB cable' helped one person with this issue, and may be worth checking (e.g. cable wearing, even if same one used last week to this week?)Screen went black last week Tuesday night, Im driving home from work. I was making a lane change, flipped the right turn signal on and it went black. Music was still on but none of the buttons worked. Turned off the stereo turned it back on still black screen. When I get home I turned off the car then turned it on and the screen came back on.
screen didnt go dark on me until tonight. I was doing the same thing I was doing last Tuesday, driving home from work, flipped the right signal on and black screen again. exited the freeway with the screen still in black mode, stopped at a light, put the car in park, turned off the car and turned it back on the screen didnt turn on. I get home did the off on thing to the car and the screen comes back on. What gives? Going to take it into the dealer on day off.
What you're experiencing can be fix with a manual reboot or a self reboot by the system. It has to do with the high uptime with the infotainment system being on all the time. It will get to a certain point where it will crash due to probably running out of memory.Mine locked up on me last week. Was using navigation and radio. The radio went dead and the nav screen locked on the map. No buttons worked and I couldn't change anything. This is the 2nd time (last time was a long time ago) it has happened. I couldn't stop as I was on a highway so I just let it do whatever it was going to do. A few minutes (maybe 5 minutes?) later the screen went black and the whole infotainment system rebooted all by itself. Has worked normally ever since.
Hopefully just a 'coincidental' occurrence in connection to switching to Sport mode, as you mentioned. I'd like to think the charging and throttle management would be separate from infotainment controls.Had the infotainment system crash for the first time yesterday (almost 5 months and 4K miles), shortly after pulling out of my driveway. Possibly coincidental, but I happened to turn on Sport mode when I started the car, something I don't think I had ever done in the past. I generally only use Sport mode while driving when trying to charge the battery before a long stretch where I know I can use EV. It restarted quickly, but took a few minutes before I could turn the audio back on.
My thoughts, exactly.Hopefully just a 'coincidental' occurrence in connection to switching to Sport mode, as you mentioned. I'd like to think the charging and throttle management would be separate from infotainment controls.
Will be interested in updates on this. I've been wondering how lemon laws on electronics work... e.g. is the manufacturer responsible for replacing the whole car, or just the electrical/associated components.Kinda related - my ex-boss has a 2018 Accord hybrid with regular infotainment screen crashes. He absolutely LOVES his car but is pursing a lemon law claim against Honda. He's got a lawyer (apparently free) and has had his first meeting. The car has been to the dealer over five times, with many resets and head swaps to no avail. The lawyer's "experts" are meeting with him later in the week to see the car in person and gather more data. I'll keep everyone posted as to the outcome. He would like to keep the car or trade it for one that doesn't exhibit the issue. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
If the infotainment system goes for a long time before a crash/reboot it probably is normal until Honda updates the software with better memory management. 5 months of up time is a long time for the infotainment computer to be on(it remains on even when we turn off our car) without a refresh.Had the infotainment system crash for the first time yesterday (almost 5 months and 4K miles), shortly after pulling out of my driveway. I haven't wanted to say anything lest I jinx myself, but after 1 year of ownership/use and not having performed any manual resets, I've had no crash issues. How many hours of uptime is it showing? :surprise:I haven't wanted to say anything lest I jinx myself, but after 1 year of ownership/use and not having performed any manual resets, I've had no crash issues. (... knocking on all pieces of wood around me and collecting copious rabbits feet)
I've been saving the infotainment reset steps for if/when I have an issue, but haven't needed to trigger it yet.
I finally remembered to check this morning... 74+ hours (3+ days) of uptime. How many hours of uptime is it showing? :surprise:
I struggle with the timing of the reboot steps so haven't been able to do it since April. My display audio screen usually reboots by itself between 1,000-1,500 hours. I just had a forced reboot the other day when I turned on my car it froze on the disclaimer screen. I turned off the car and the disclaimer stayed on for about 10 seconds before the display audio turned off. When I turned the car back on the disclaimer had the greyed out okay button. Confirmed the uptime reset back down to 0.I finally remembered to check this morning... 74+ hours (3+ days) of uptime.
I'm the only driver and have yet to use the neutral gear/button on the car. I haven't done any reboots myself, so it seems the system is rebooting itself. I do notice some mornings that the "OK" button on the welcome screen is unselectable and grayed out, which I've attributed to the antenna not finding signal while in garage. I've never been bothered by the grayed out "OK" because I always just proceed to drive/use the car and let the disclaimer message clear itself.
Net, maybe I haven't had any infotainment issues because my system is rebooting itself...
For those that do the reset process, what's the longest amount of uptime you've seen for the infotainment system?
I see that grayed out "OK" most mornings when I first pull my car out. Maybe parking in a garage has more benefits (like self infotainment reset?) than just temperature control. I kinda like that I don't have to think about resetting the infotainment system.I struggle with the timing of the reboot steps so haven't been able to do it since April. That seems like a lot of self-reboots to me if it does it every few days. Mine crashes/reboots by itself about every 2-3 months based on the uptime hours.I see that grayed out "OK" most mornings when I first pull my car out. I haven't bothered to check uptime since I haven't had issues, but can start to track and see what the actual reboot frequency is. It has seemed 'normal' when thinking of it as a time-lag for radio/antenna to connect. That seems like a lot of self-reboots to me if it does it every few days. A friend of mine with a 2018 Accord hybrid has started a lemon law claim. I will keep everyone posted. His system is crash/rebooting several times a week.Adding to the class action lawsuits against Honda for the 2018/19 Odyssey and 2019 Pilot already mentioned here, here, and here... a lawsuit has been filed for the 2017-2019 CR-V infotainment screens freezing, going dark, and/or blinding drivers in 'full bright' mode without being touched.
The Odyssey, Pilot, and CR-V have different platform than the Insight/Accord, but hopefully this sets a precedent and motivates Honda to find common issue/solution and intervene on all systems, including the Insight... OR we gather enough reports of infotainment issues to start similar legal action on the Insight.
