The install should be really quick compared to the download and prep stage. Mine took 1-2 minutes and @Verdier's video show his Insight did it even faster.

Yeah, you would need to take it to the dealership if the update bricked your infotainment system.
The download and prep took about ten minutes. The actual install only took a minute or two due to the need for a reboot.

I think the 2022 Honda Insight will be the mid-gen refresh. Honda usually does some exterior design changes with mid-gen refreshes (ex: 2019 Civic, 2020 CR-V). Also it appears that Honda has been providing new software builds from the factory even though we went without a new update for 2 years. @Zilatuz's Insight originally had build 18AE-2047-001 while mine was 18AE-1945-001.
I think it will depend on what Honda decides for the Civic's 2022 model year (2021 calendar year). I think the Insight will be absorbed into the Civic by that time, making the 2021 Insight the mid-cycle refresh. But only time will tell...

There were interim software updates that seemed to get applied by dealer if other electronics issue was present. Not sure about version number, but @Wifey'sInsight mentioned a software update as a 'fix' after electronics went haywire more than once.

Does anyone now how to get the “system update” option on the infotainment? Mexico’s EX version does not have that option. Can I download the new version and install it anyway??! If I do and it doesn’t work can I revert to the current version?

When you click on HOME, then arrow to the next page using on right, you don't get a "System Updates" button/app listed in bottom row?

Nope, searched everywhere, system, setting, even opening developer mode, nothing!
The System Updates tile may just be missing from the initial screen. Did you look under the "All Apps" section to see if it's there?

I did the update over wifi, but for those needing to use the USB option, here is the website:

In the USB page it asks for a car file? Where do I get that? Wondering what would happen if (Can I) upgrade it via USB?
For the USB option, you need to plug a USB in the Insight and select the USB option within the System Updates app to grab the car file. Maybe the Mexican Insight doesn't have the capability to do system updates...?

The remaining "installation" steps after downloading to USB are as follows, per post #42. Doing this also requires a FAT32 formatted USB thumb drive with at least 8 GB free space:

Apparently not, anyway around this? It’s still a insight EX built in the states!!
Have you tried the USB option yet (i.e. do you have access to the OTA USB Website site and have a FAT32 formatted USB with >8 GB available)? You could try downloading the file from online source, then seeing if you can install via audio system.

Wow!!! I would love to try that! My car does have WiFi but no way to access the site, no chrome or any other web browser, and no update tile si even if I connect it no way to go online

It sounds like software update apps/options have been disabled for your (all?) Insights for Mexico. But perhaps your dealer can install the update instead. Might be worth asking dealer as next step...

Two days ago my car informed me that a software update was available. First time I've seen that since I purchased in June 2018! My car connects to my home WiFi, so I did the update. It only took a few minutes before my infotainment screen came alive again.
I have no idea what's new. I wonder if someone could tell me?

See post 17 above for summary of update features to new software version 18AE-2071-001. :)

I have a 2019 Touring Insight running Audio System 18AE-1945-001. wifi update says I am up to date. usb update says the same thing. I am definitely connected to home wifi and using a freshly FAT32 formatted 12GB usb stick. Probably not a big deal. The new update doesn't/t look that significant. But frustrating that I can't seem to get the update following the directions.

Hi Joe.

What is the current uptime of your system? Perhaps rebooting it and checking afterwards will be enough of a kick-in-the-pants to get the new version realized. I work in I/T, and many times "turning it on and back on again" does the trick.
